This coffee comes to us from the town of Marcala, a municipality in the Honduran department of La Paz - the region is known for its coffee production, boasting the first "protected origin denomination" for coffee.

It is produced by the co-op Café Orgánico Marcala (COMSA) – founded in December of 2001 with a vision of creating new and alternative development opportunities for small-scale coffee farmers.

The organization originally brought together 69 small-scale farmers with a mutual goal of investing in organic production, rather than conventional. The COMSA co-op is now 1200 members strong, and is continually innovating and experimenting with organic practices, always with the emphasis on preserving local plant life.
